"A Requiem for Father Earendil"

Mirtul 27, 1493 DR The Rev. Earendil Meliamne, pastor of St. Peren, Traditional Sylvan rite church and one of the best-known priests in Waterdeep, died yesterday while helping kill a vampire lurking beneath the city, church leaders reported. The death of "Father Aer," as he was known to parishioners and members of the general public, sent shock waves through the congregation and the larger religious community as word of his death spread. "It is just unbelievable. He was so healthy and robust and outgoing," said Father Laurus Amakiir, formely a parochial vicar-- who now leads St. Peren TSR in the wake of Father Earendil's passing. Amakier said Father Earendil, 645, was helping a group of local adventurers go after the "Baron of Blood"--a vampire who apparently lived in Waterdeep for centuries--but was generally considered an urban legend.  "What we know is very sketchy," he said.  "It appears that Father Earendil approached Baron Aeoth an

Prison Break foiled by City Watch

"Prison Break Foiled by City Watch" Mirtul 13, 1493 DR According to sources in the Waterdeep Prison, a daring escape attempt was foiled yesterday, thanks to the vigilance of City Watch, combined with the potent arcane wards preventing all teleportation in-or-out. During his routine patrol, Officer Dain Balderk noticed a woman and a halfling both seemingly attempting to use a spell-scroll in Xandala Esoterica's cell.  Given the fact that this halfling had managed to break in to Waterdeep Prison without being detected, Balderk summoned back-up, which was able to subdue both without too much difficulty. The halfling has been identified as Lyle Leagallow--of Undercliff.  Apparently, Mr. Leagallow is also a wererat, which explains how he was able to infiltrate the Waterdeep Prison without being detected.  However, due to the permanent antimagic field warding the prison, neither Xandala or Lyle were able to use the spell scrolls to escape.  Mr. Leagallow is being held in a were

Successful Raid on Undermountain

Mirtul 8, 1493 DR According to our correspondent in the Yawning Portal, a large group of more than 20 adventurers entered Undermountain yesterday. The leader of this group was a shirtless, muscular man. Apparently, the leader of this party successfully recruited followers while venturing below the city. Because, several hours later the group emerged from Undermountain now more than 40 members strong.

Waterdeep's New Top Cop

BREAKING NEWS "Waterdeep's New Top Cop" Mirtul 10, 1493 DR At her latest conference with the Scrivener's Guild, the Open Lord announced that she has accepted the resignation of Lander Hornraven, Commander of the City Watch.  Hornraven was appointed Commander of the City Watch in 1485, under the Neverember administration. Open Lord Silverhand commented, "on behalf of all of the people of Waterdeep, I want to thank him for his service to our city. Hornraven worked hard to protect our public safety."  Hornraven stated: "It has been an honor to serve this city that I love for so many years.  Most of all, I want to thank my fellow members of the City Watch." Later in the conference, Silverhand announced her appointment of Commander Amhgo Murphy to replace Commander Hornraven.  When questioned, Silverhand stated: "This is not in reaction to unfounded and baseless criticisms directed against the outstanding service and professionalism of our City Wat

Lord Cassalanter announces a daring raid! Xanathar routed!!

BREAKING NEWS Mirtul 9, 1493 DR Earlier today, Lord Victorio Cassalanter announced he led a group of retainers, allies and friends in a daring assault on the secret lair of the Xanathar's Guild. According to Cassalanter's missive:  "It should not fall to the private citizens of this fair city to patrol and protect the city from such threats.  But for too long now, the Open Lord has looked the other way as dangerous criminal elements have proliferated unchecked in the city.  I was tired of waiting for long-overdue official action. And so I thundered forth upon this wicked abomination, like the wrath of a just god.  He was holed up like an oyster in its shell.  But I smashed through their defenses.  I broke the resolve of his soldiers, and crushed them as they panicked and fled.  With the help of my men and my ally, we are holding the Xanathar's lair, and clearing it of any remaining threats to the good people of Waterdeep. I only hope that this blow might help bring an

"Outbreak of novel form of the zombie plague in Waterdeep" Tarsakh 29, 1493 DR A new variant of the zombie plague has been detected in the sewers of Waterdeep.  The Castle of Waterdeep's Center for Undead Protection advises that this variant is likely no more dangerous than ordinary zombieism.  "Just take normal precautions--like washing your hands after meals--and everything should turn out fine.  The Center for Undead Protection has no reason to believe that this new variant will not remained contained in the sewers." Some fearmongers are stirring up panic, advising the public to avoid halflings--based on the deeply offensive stereotype that all halflings are wererats.  There is NO arcane connection between lycanthropy and any form of zombieism--and the idea that halflings are more likely to carry this new zombie plague is deeply offensive and retrograde. ______________________ "Night of the Wolf" in the Field Ward Tarsakh 30, 1493 DR According to ru

Review Tarsakh 21, 1493 DR The recently opened tavern "Frewn's Brews" is under new management and has a new name.  After an apparent buyout by the prosperous halfling Snobeedle family (of Snobeedle's Orchard and Meadery in Undercliff), the newly renovated tavern is now going by "Snow's Mead and Feed," and offers patrons a comfortable halfling-style "taste of home."  Bring in a copy of this article for 10% off your first visit! _________________________________ "Gang War escalates in the Sea Ward" Tarsakh 24, 1493 DR The City Watch is reporting a dramatic surge in gang activity in the Sea Ward.  Citizens of this prosperous district are calling for an immediate crackdown on the Black Network and Xanathar's Guild in the wake of several gangland style slayings this past week. Lord Calear Argent, Alderman of the Sea Ward, commented "this type of violence and crime goes against everything we hold dear in the Sea Ward.  We want SAFE

Waterdeep Wazoo, Tarsakh 13, 1493 DR (April 13, 2021)

Breaking News Tarsakh 13, 1493 DR There was a break-in at the Waterdeep Zoological Gardens yesterday.  According to Archdruid Laucian Galanodel, the break-in occurred late in the evening, and whoever perpetruated this crime opened the cages of all the rarest behemoth predators--including King Ubtao, a very rare tyrannosaurus specimen.  Readers may recall that earlier this year, King Ubtao was donated to the Waterdeep Zoological Gardens as a gift from King Shago I of Chult--as part of his recent efforts to improve diplomatic and trade relations between Chult and Waterdeep. King Shago also donated a number of other behemoths to the Waterdeep Menagerie--including a large pack of velociraptors, a mated pair of deinonychuses--along with other herbivoric behemoths.  Although these behemoths are quite common in Chult, where they are commonly used for Port Nyanzaru's exciting but dangerous sport of behemoth racing--behemoths do not exist in the wilds of Faerun.  Some sages believe that beh

Letter to the editor Tarsakh 1, 1493 DR Dear Mr. Rudderbust,  I think that you and our fellow Waterdhavians should know that the Cassalanters are heavily involved in a satanic pedophilic cult run largely run by tieflings.  PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE! all the kids and orphans who have gone missing this year!? The strange appearance and slurred speech from many of our cities` nobles!?  Many of the so-called elite of our beloved city are part of a secret cult to Asmodeus, they offer child sacrifices and drink the blood to obtain unnaturally extended life and wealth from the devils.   Our open lord, Lady Laeral Silverhand is a human who by her own admission is centuries old...  something doesn't add up.   Wake up people!!! Read the Patriots Pamphlet-- the last five years since Lord NEVEREMBER supposedly lost power--has all been part of the plan to expose them and Make Waterdeep Great Again! Sincerely, A. Appleblossom (Ed. Note we felt this letter was of public interest, we do not know whethe

Waterdeep Wazoo, Ches 31, 1493 DR (March 31, 2021)

Exclusive: Ches 31, 1493 DR A terrible tragedy befell the beloved and benevolent Cassalanter family yesterday. A vicious cult of fanatical devil worshipers managed to gain entrance to the family crypt. They defaced an ancient mosaic of the family patron, St. Cuthbert. The mosaic was damaged with partial loss of tiles and vile slogans inscribed on the remaining ones. Worse tragedy was avoided when the raiders were repelled from the family crypt by the arrival of a Holy Paladin of Saint Cuthbert, Aeoth the Humble. This humble hammer of heretics and devils immediately set to work to protecting the sleeping family above. The damage was already extensive but the powerful warrior cast a Bearded Devil back to the pit and cast out three degenerate cultists who were continuing to profane the ever gracious and generous Cassalanter heritage and home. Asked to comment on how he arrived in time to stop further desecration, the meek warrior said plainly that he was called to restore the Cassalanter

Waterdeep Wazoo, Tarsakh 4, 1493 DR (April 4, 2021)

Special Report Tarsakh 4, 1493 DR Our correspondent in the Yawning Portal reports that a group referring to themselves as "Team Wolf"-- Wayne (Tiefling Bard), Orson (Tiefling Cleric), Lox (Half-orc fighter), and Flint (Dwarf rogue), has taken credit for clearing a dangerous menace from the City of the Dead.  According to Wayne Jann, the leader of Team Wolf--the party was just doing their civic duty to protect their fellow citizens from the threat of the necromancer.  Wayne told our correspondent the necromancer was behind a recent spate of bizarre grave robberies in the city--where the only thing removed were the dead persons' hands.  Wayne Jann noted that the necromancer escaped from Team Wolf into the sewers of Waterdeep, but takes credit for driving him out of his lair where he was amassing greater power in the City of the Dead.  "Once we killed his supply of hands and without his evil "they/them" warlock girlfriend,--which another group allegedly turned

Waterdeep Wazoo, Tarsakh 3, 1493 DR (April 3, 2021)

Special report Tarsakh 3, 1493 DR There are reports of trouble afoot in the City of the Dead.  Sir Ambrose Everdawn, the well known and beloved sentinel of the ward told our correspondent that he saw a strange writhing mass and a hooded figure leaving a Crypt last night.  He was too far to engage before the mysterious creatures entered the sewers.  When asked for comment, the palace declined to weigh in on the rumors, except to remind citizens that the City of the Dead is closed at night and citizens should not trespass there after dark for their own safety.  Sir Everdawn believes that the sighting is related to a series of bizarre grave desecrations in recent weeks as he found several human fingerbones near the sewer entrance.

Waterdeep Wazoo, Alturiak 3, 1493 DR (February 3, 2021)

EXTRA EXTRA Alturiak 3, 1493 DR A criminal investigation has been opened into the Gralhund family.  According to reliable sources, the Waterdeep Wazoo has learned that the Gralhunds are under house arrest pending an ongoing investigation into the gangland style killings of 15 people committed on their property under suspicious circumstances. The city watch refused to comment on a rumored connection to an explosion which left 11 dead earlirer this week in Trollskull Alley.  One of the proprietors of Barrelriders has been taken into custody, and two of the other proprietors are wanted for burglary, suspicion of murder, and resisting arrest.  Are the Barrelriders and the Gralhunds somehow connected to the black network?  Waterdeep castle has no official comment.  But our correspondent, Olshove Peligrew speculates wildly within...
